        Research and Professional Activity

        Since joining LNEC, he has been  participated in several projects, individually and as a part of a team,  through the development and implementation of different types of systems  and equipment for the different areas of study in the field of Civil  Engineering, namely Structures, Dams, Hydraulics, Transport and  Geotechnics. Its activity has been focused, mainly, on the area of  instrumentation and monitoring, through the development of computational  tools aimed at data acquisition and processing, support for metrology,  monitoring and control, as well as the development of dedicated  instrumentation, for measuring and testing systems with specific  characteristics.Among the various works in which he has participated, it  is worth of mention the development of:

        • A monitoring system,  mounted in a railway train, aiming for the continuous assessment of  railway tracks for efficient asset management;
        • A system for  imposing controlled deformation trajectories, on full-scale or  reduced-scale specimens, when subjected to cyclic tests;
        • An optical measurement system for monitoring the displacements of suspended and cable-stayed bridges;
        • A system for anchorage assessment;
        • A system for measuring the electrical resistance of anchorage insulation;
        • The monitoring system of the 25 de Abril bridge (Lisbon);
        • The monitoring system of the Transrhumel viaduct (Algeria).

        Among  others, he is the author (co-author) of several scientific works  published in referee journals, as well as of communications presented at  scientific congresses and technical reports (LNEC).Furthermore, it has  collaborated with several journals, evaluating and issuing its opinion  regarding the scientific merit of the manuscripts submitted for  publication, namely:

        • Structural Health and Control Monitoring;
        • Measurement;
        • NDT & E International;
        • Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing;
        • Advances in Mechanical Engineering;
        • IET Image Processing;
        • Journal of Low Frequency Noise;
        • Vibration and Active Control.
