Developed planned research within the scope of DamSwelling process, studying the structural behavior of concrete dams subject to swelling processes. Also developed contract research studies aimed at observation, analysis and interpretation of the behavior and safety control of concrete dams, monitoring of construction and installation of systems observation in dams and other related science and technology activities, namely carrying out studies and reviews.
Regarding contract research activity, within the scope of observation and safety control of concrete dams and their foundations, was responsible for the processes relating to the following eleven dams: i) Ponte de Coimbra Dam; ii) Baixo Sabor; iii) Caldeirão; iv) Carrapatelo; v) Crestuma; vi) Fagilde; vii) Feiticeiro; viii) Fratel; ix) Pracana; x) Santa Luzia; and xi) Venda Nova. Currently is responsible for the processes of the following five dams: i) Baixo Sabor; ii) Feiticeiro; iii) Fratel; iv) Pracana; and v) Venda Nova.
Regarding contract studies, carried out close to 40 reports, of which highlights the following studies carried out in collaboration with other colleagues:
Cahora Bassa Hydroelectric Scheme – Dams behaviour analysis, interpretation, and prevision (2009).
Baixo Sabor Dam - Analysis of the causes of the opening of the concrete joints at elevations 185 m and 186 m in the central area of the upstream face, at the end of construction, and assessment of the rehabilitation solution (2014).
