MAIN AREAS OF RESEARCH/INTEREST

Characterization of organic building materials (namely coatings, polymeric materials and concrete admixtures);

Assessment of the performance and durability of coatings used in civil engineering.

Methods to assess the emission of volatile organic compounds from construction materials.

Analysis/identification of causes of anomalies in organic materials used in construction works.

DEVELOPED ATIVITY

Participation in National and European research projects.

Participation in studies requested by external entities to the LNEC, including coordination of experimental activities and preparation of documents related to the studies carried out.

Participation in other scientific and technical activities:

Characterization tests of organic materials used in civil engineering, such as: paints, varnishes and other organic coatings (for application on wood, concrete and masonry substrates), polymeric materials, polymer matrix composites and concrete additives.

Participation in the various phases (document analysis and product characterization, factory production control and preparation of the Application Document) of the procedures for the preparation and renewal of Application Documents required by industry for coatings (in particular products for coating wood surfaces in outdoor conditions, paint coatings for cement and concrete plasters on outdoor surfaces and water-based paint coatings for indoor surfaces). Participation in audits of paint industry plants in the context of the preparation and renewal of application documents.

Follow/up of the European standardization developed by CEN/TC 351 ("Construction products - Assessment of release of dangerous substances") on the release of dangerous substances from construction products within the scope of the Construction Products Regulation.

Participation in the voting and translation process of standards of the Technical Committee for Standardization CT 3: Paints, varnishes and paint coatings.
